Weekend Getaway

This is definitely a blabbering post.

This year Valentine's day has been non existent for us, my husband is in Sydney for work and I'm in Melbourne (that's our home). We only see each other on weekends now. It's going to be like this for another 5 weeks. Sigh. This week has been the worst yet, and next week he's not coming back on the weekend so I won't see him for 2 weeks, super sad face. Thank God for friends and family, I've been looked after really well.

To make up for missing vday I organised a little get away weekend a couple of weeks ago.One thing is for sure I really enjoy traveling with my husband especially if we're driving. On the highest volume we put on our silly voices and sing along to the music. Then when we get tired of singing we have big conversations then when we get really really tired we have silent moments. I love the feeling of being silent with someone and it's not awkward at all, you're both simply content to be in each others company.

What makes me feel loved is quality time, it's definitely my love language. I would rather spend time with my husband like go out on a date and chat for hours rather than be showered with gifts and never see him. It's how I like building relationships too, spending time one-on-one with girl friends.There are others though that feel especially loved by receiving gifts, or by being physically touched, or by receiving words of affirmation..and so on. It's amazing how enriching a relationship can be when you both know what your love language is. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend you read the 5 Languages of Love and find out what you (and your partner's) primary love language is. It took our relationship to a whole new level. So this weekend was all about fulfilling my love language and my husband's. We drove up the Great Ocean Road and stayed at Torquay's Peppers for a night. I thought Torquay was pretty average but if you love surfing then this is the place for you. It's famous for its surf beaches (bells beach in particular) which holds the famous Rip Curl comp every year. So we spent most of our weekend exploring the surrounding areas from Anglesea to Lorne. At Anglesea I fell in love with the most gorgeous cafe the Red Till check them out.

I took a few snaps, most are of the Split Point Light House near Anglesea which I absolutely loved! we stayed there for a while and enjoyed a cold drink at the Willows Tea House and as you can see below it is decorated beautifully with those colourful flags.

Wedding: Mim & Hendra - Warragul, Victoria.

When Miriam (Mim) asked me to photograph her wedding via email, I never thought I'd ever photograph a wedding, ever. Photography has always been hobby for me, and it still is. But of course I said yes and boy was I in for a fun ride.

I met Mim a few years ago through my church. She and her family are missionaries overseas and have been for many years, in fact I don't think they speak much English at home.

So I suppose it's only natural that Mim met the love of her life during her mission work. Both Mim and Hendra work in a remote area in South East Asia, they say it's very much like a jungle in the middle of no where. What they do is amazing and quite admirable for such a young couple. Mim is studying to be a nurse and works at the medical clinic and Hendra is a principal at the local school. 

Now this blows my mind. They also look after little Leigh who you'll see quite often in the photos below, an aspiring photographer (he was carrying this little plastic camera everywhere) with the most vibrant personality. Leigh is 3 years old and came to the medical clinic in a very critical condition. His mother died of cancer and his father couldn't look after him so ever since Mim and Hendra have looked after him.

The highlight for me was definitely Mim getting ready with her family because her family are laid back, funny and insanely unorganised but most importantly very family oriented which is really amazing to experience. At one point I was looking for a shirt then later trying to find make-up foundation...all while still clicking away trying to photograph as much as I can.
